Mate 500-1600grt, 3rd Mate Unlimited / STCW II/1 OICNW <500GT. MPT offers all of the courses that are required by USCG NVIC 12-14(CH2) to upgrade from an Able Seaman to a Third Mate Unlimited or a Mate 500/1600/OSV/Mate (Pilot) Towing license. Mariners will need to have completed 1080 Days service in the deck department prior to applying to the USCG for the license. Please speak to a school counselor for more information. ** Please note that STCW Basic Training or STCW Basic Training Refresher/ Revalidation must have been completed within 5 years of application to the USCG.
This course is required for officers who serve on vessels equipped with RADAR. Students attending this course will develop the skills needed for risk assessment, collision avoidance, and navigation.
This USCG approved (United States Coast Guard) 4 day course utilizes both classroom and live scenarios at the fire academy -focusing on meeting the minimum standard of competence in advanced firefighting. A trainee will be competent in: Control fire-fighting operations aboard ships Organize and train fire parties Ability to inspect and service fire detection and fire extinguishing systems and equipment. Able to investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire.
This course is required for all deck officers of vessels equipped with ARPA and covers the set up and use of ARPA for collision avoidance and navigation
Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) GOC General Operator Certificate - This course is required for all deck officers serving on vessels equipped with GMDSS Equipment. This USCG course will satisfy the GMDSS Training of STCW A-IV/2 for GOC.
This course is designed for officers and crew who will provide immediate first aid and assist the Medical Person In Charge and is recommended for all crew members.

This course focuses on introducing the candidate to the proper Bridge Resource and Teamwork Management functions and on taking action to avoid close quarters situations in accordance with the COLREGS. The completion of the course will satisfy the 46 CFR and STCW requirements cited below. This is a SIMULATOR and CLASSROOM course, exercises are used to evaluate the student’s mastery of the specific OICNW tasks.
