Course Description

Course 277 OICEW - Diesel Engine

This is a 140 Hour simulator and workshop course and will cover marine engineering topics at the operational level per STCW Section A-III/1 and Table A-III/1. Any applicant who successfully completes the OICEW- Diesel Engine (MARTPT-734) course will satisfy the requirements of:

• The Motor Plants training requirements of 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(ix)for STCW endorsement as OICEW on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW/1,000 HP propulsion power or more; AND

• The standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.329(a)(3); Section A-III/l of the STCW Code, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 17-14 Ch-2 Tasks 4.2.C, 4.3.C, 4.3.F, 4.3.l, 4.3.M, 4.3.N, 4.3.O, 4.3.R, 5.1.A. 5.2.A, 5.2.B, 5.2.C, 5.3.A, 6.1.B and 8.3.A.

Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed "Task Control Sheets" for these assessments in application for STCW certification.

Required Materials

You will be required to show ID (a passport is preferred). You should bring Paper, pencil and highlighters for notes. Candidates taking this course are required to bring the following clothing for the practical workshop assessments: Shirt with long sleeves, long pants and closed toed shoes or equivalent safety shoes. MPT will provide the use of a welding mask/goggles, welding gloves/jacket, work gloves, eye protection, and ear protection. Candidates are welcome to bring their own equipment if desired.
