MPT is the most complete full service private maritime school in the country and has been training mariners since 1983. Our Fort Lauderdale based campuses host over 45,000 square feet of classrooms, deck and engineering training labs, the Ship's Store, and student service facilities.
This 4 hour USCG Approved Course teaches the knots and splices that the USCG requires Able Seafarers - Deck Department to be proficient in. Practical Final Assessment is included. Certificate will be accepted by the USCG in lieu of the Marlinespike Seamanship Demonstration of Competency at the REC. Included automatically with the Able Seafarer-Deck Course #252. It is not necessary to sign up separately for this module if you are enrolled in the Able Seafarer-Deck Course.
Any student who successfully completes the Marlinespike Seamanship (MARPTP-280) course and who presents Certificate of Training within one year of the completion of training, will satisfy the practical (knot-tying) examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.05(c) for any Able Seaman endorsement, AND assessment Task 4.9.A required per NVIC 14-14 for an Able Seafarer-Deck endorsement.
