186 Engineering Terminology and Shipboard Operations (ETSO)
This course is intended to provide officers in charge of an engineering watch in an unmanned engineroom or designated duty engineers in a periodically unmanned engineroom with specialized Maritime English that deals with maritime terminology which will allow general use of engineering publications and the performance of engineering duties relative to the ship’s safety and operation. This course will also satisfy the training requirements of: • 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(v) for STCW endorsements as OICEW on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW/1,000 HP propulsion power or more, • IMO Model Course 7.04, Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch, Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) 1.2 – Use English in written and oral form; and • NVIC 17-14: Task 2.1.A – Use English is written and oral form.
