Course Description
Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities - Course #142
This ½ day course is one of the four modules of STCW Basic Safety Training. There are no tonnage limits on this course and it will satisfy STCW VI-1-4.
This course satisfies the Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities competency and training requirements of:
- 46 CFR 11.302(a)(4) and 12.602(a)(4); And
- Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010; And
- The assessment tasks as guided by the applicable section within the Basic Training NVIC 08-14; and assessment task 19.4 from NVIC 12-14(Ch-2) and NVIC 02-18.
Applicants are not required to present completed record of assessment sheets when applying for the STCW endorsement.
This class is scheduled in conjunction with the Personal Survival Techniques course which is 1 1/2 days. PSSR is four hours in the morning or afternoon depending on the pool schedule which is also approximately 4 hours of practical training conducted the same day.
This day may run longer than the average classroom day as there are also transportation issues and weather can affect the pool schedule. Generally the full day will run until about 1800-1830. Typically this is day two of the course but can be a different day depending on the schedule.

This course is open to all seafarers.
