OICNW ASSESSMENT SESSION: BRM & Miscellaneous Assessments: #212 & 693
THIS COURSE IS CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED TO TRANSITION TO THE TASKS IN THE NEW SYSTEM FOR NVIC 12-14.
FOR MARINERS IN THE OLD SYSTEM, UNDER GRANDFATHERING PROVISIONS WHICH EXPIRE 12/31/16, PLEASE CONTACT THE STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE FOR ASSISTANCE WITH COMPLETION OF OUTSTANDING ASSESSMENTS FOR POLICY LETTER 01-02.
This 5 day assessment session utilizes the MPT SMART TM Simulation Center and will provde candidates an opportunity to have a variety of Bridge Resource Management Assessments and miscellaneous assessment requirements to meet STCW A-II/1 for raise in grade from the support to the operational level licenses as per USCG Policy Letter 12-14, as listed below.

Prerequisite Skills:
Please note that this is not a TRAINING course, this week is for practical ASSESSMENTS ONLY which are demonstrations of proficiency in the skills outlined on the control sheets that the assessors will be signing off for you as listed below. If you do not have the control sheets, they can be downloaded from the USCG Website, policy letter number 11-07, www.USCG.mil/nmc or you can contact your career counselor at MPT for guidance. These OICNW Assessment control sheets have been replaced by OICNW Tasks listed in USCG NVIC 12-14. Mariners with documented sea service or training prior to March 24, 2014 may continue to use the OICNW Assessments until December 31,2016.
Please review the control sheets listed below to determine if you are ready to be assessed in these areas. If you have taken the prerequisite BRM and Watchkeeping Courses you should be prepared for the first set listed below.
The remainder of the miscellaneous assessments listed in part two below are available for candidates who wish to have the various assessments signed off WITHOUT additional training, i.e. shiphandling, electronic navigation, meteorology, compass, etc. Please note that this week does not include training in these areas. If after reviewing the control sheets, you find you will need additional training, please seek out an MPT career counselor to assist you in deciding which classes to register for. Candidates who cannot successfully complete the assessment criteria will not be signed off as proficient.
