Apprentice Mate Steersman - Course #121
This 3.5 week course is actually a combination of three courses #101, #120, and #107. It is the combination of the 100 ton, 200 ton and the apprentice mate steersman crossover courses. If you already hold a 100 ton license then you only have to complete the other two, if you already hold a 150 or 200 ton license, then you should see listing #120. It is the course combination to get your apprentice mate steersman or the mate pilot of towing or the master of towing licenses, depending on which level the USCG deems you qualify for.
Subjects Include:
Navigation, tidal calculations, international and inland rules of the road, coastal pilotage, meteorology, anchoring and mooring, marlinespike, docking and undocking, buoyage systems, safety, voyage and
passage planning, towing nomenclature, general ship knowledge regulations, stability and vessel construction, and seamanship.
Written Exams:
This course is USCG Approved. No Tests at the Coast Guard. You will take written final exams administered at MPT at the end of the program. They include a selection of the topics covered in the course. We work with everyone until they pass! Do not worry. Class participation and study will get you through the exams.
