Bridge Resource Management (BRM) - Course #151S

 Our Bridge Resource Management (MARTPT-75) course is designed to equip deck officers with the BRM principles to maintain safe navigational control, manage bridge-team resources, and prevent accidents. Our 21-hour, three-day Bridge Resource Management course is delivered entirely in person. Instruction will blend short lectures, facilitated discussions and collaborative problem-solving with hands-on practical assessment in a Class-A full-mission bridge simulator, where pre-programmed scenarios let each candidate execute and adapt the voyage plans they created in class. 

 Trainees are then assessed through a written examination consisting of 25 multiple-choice questions and practical assessments of competence in our IMO Class A Full-Mission Ship Bridge Simulator. These assessments align with task performance standards from the USCG's Guidelines on Qualification for STCW Endorsements as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW). Each student MUST:

• Describe when there is a need for additional personnel on the bridge and when to notify the Master.
• Identify all vessels (targets) posing a risk or danger of collision and provide appropriate information and recommendations on vessel traffic and any other situation or condition that may affect the safe navigation of the vessel to the conning officer.
• Determine and plot the vessel’s position by electronic and visual means, communicate as required on the VHF, carry out all engine commands, ensure that all rudder commands are properly carried out, and make all appropriate logbook entries.
• Monitor the vessel’s movement, recognize the erroneously-stated information about the vessel’s position or target vessel’s movement, and notify the conning officer of specific questions regarding the vessel’s situation.
• Navigate in congested near coastal waters with good visibility and determine the appropriate action to take. 
• Determine and plot the vessel’s position at suitable intervals, and plot or systematically observe all approaching vessels and inform the bridge team of dangers to navigation, intended course changes, and vessels that pose a risk or danger of collision.
• Determine the number of officers and crewmembers required to safely navigate the vessel and assign individual officers and crewmembers specific duties and functions as part of the bridge team. 
• Perform the duties of an OICNW during an operation entering port and docking the vessel.

A passing score is required on the examination and successful completion of all task performance standards are required to demonstrate competence and complete the course.

Any applicant who has successfully completed our Bridge Resource Management
(MARTPT-75) course will satisfy:

• The Bridge Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(vii) for an STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) for vessels of 500 GT (ITC) or more (Operational Level); AND
• The Bridge Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(vii) for an STCW endorsement as OICNW of vessels of less than 500 GT (ITC) (Operational Level); AND
• The Bridge Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.321(a)(3)(iv) for an STCW endorsement as OICNW of vessels of less than 500 GT (ITC) limited to near-coastal waters (Operational Level); AND
• The Bridge Resource Management standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.309(a)(3) and 11.319(a)(3); STCW Code Section A-II/1 and Table A-II/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVICs 12-14 (Ch-8) and 02-18(Ch-5) Tasks 2.7.A, 2.7.B, 2.7.C, 2.7.D, 2.7.E, 2.7.F, and 2.7.G; AND
• The Bridge Resource Management standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.321(a)(2); STCW Code Section A-II/3 and Table A-II/3, as amended 2010; AND
• The Leadership and Teamworking Skills standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.309(c)(1) and 11.319(b)(1); STCW Code Section A-II/1 and Table A-II/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 12-14(Ch-8) and 02-18(Ch-5) Tasks 18.3.A; AND
• The Leadership and Teamworking Skills standards of competence required by 46 CFR The course satisfies applicable requirements, and the following approval is granted subject to the conditions specified below and in Enclosure (1): 11.321(b)(1); STCW Code Section A-II/3 and Table A-II/3, as amended 2010.

Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.
