Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation (MARTPT -777) USCG
Course 192

This 1-day (8-hour) USCG Advanced Firefighting Re-validation course is designed to meet the training and assessment requirements of crew members who are designated to control fire fighting operations.

Successful completion of the course will satisfy the Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation requirements of the STCW, as amended, Section A-VI/3 and 46 CFR 11.201(h)(1), and 11.303(d), provided that the mariner has at least 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years.; AND the equivalent of Tasks 1.3.A, 1.5.A, 2.1.A, 2.1.B, 3.1.A, 3.1.B, 4.1.A, 4.1.B, and 4.1.C from NVIC 09-14, Advanced Fighter Fighting.

Prerequisite: A successfully completed USCG approved Advanced Firefighting course.

Subjects Include:

• Fire-fighting procedures at sea and in port, with particular emphasis on organization, tactics and command
• Communication and co-ordination during fire-fighting operations
• Ventilation control, including smoke extraction
• Control of fuel and electrical systems
• Management and control of injured persons
• Use of water for fire extinguishing, the effect on ship stability, precautions and corrective procedures
• Fire-fighting process hazards (dry distillation, chemical reactions, boiler uptake fires, etc.)
• Fire fighting involving dangerous goods
• Fire precautions and hazards associated with the storage and handling of materials (paints, etc.)
• Procedures for coordination with shore-based fire fighters
• Preparation of contingency plans 
• Composition and allocation of personnel to fire parties
• Strategies and tactics for control of fires in various parts of the ship
• Fire-detection systems; fixed fire- extinguishing systems; portable and mobile fire extinguishing equipment, including appliances, pumps and rescue, salvage, life-support, personal protective and communication equipment
• Requirements for statutory and classification surveys
• Assessment of cause of incidents involving fire

The MCA will accept Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation training certificates issued under the authority of the USCG. Please see Section 4.7 of MIN 643 and note that the US is one of the countries with which the UK has an FSE agreement. This information is also reiterated under Section 5 of MSN 1861 Amendment 1.

Candidates must have 360 days of qualifying sea service in the last 5 years to enter this revalidation course.
