## Overview

## Course description
**Upgrade OUPV Six – Pack to Master/Mate - Course #105**

MPT’s Captains License classes are USCG Approved, NO TEST AT THE USCG.

This 3 day USCG Approved course will cover the written examination requirement for a candidate holding a Six-Pack OUPV License to Upgrade to a Master or Mate license of up to 100 gross tons (depending on experience).

The Masters and Mates level earns you the respect you have earned with years of boating experience as well as giving you the ability to serve on either inspected (7 or more passengers) or uninspected vessels as you choose. Another benefit is with the near coastal (offshore) route, with 6 pack you can go up to 100 miles offshore and with the Master you can go up to 200 miles offshore!

This course is approved for the following:

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Upgrade OUPV to Master 100 Tons (MARTPT-530) course within one year of application will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(j)(1) for original issuance of the following endorsements:

- Upgrade from OUPV to Master of vessels of less than 100 GRT upon Near Coastal, or Great Lakes and Inland, or Inland waters, PROVIDED the applicant holds an OUPV endorsement or has met the examination requirements for OUPV within one year of application; AND

- Increase in scope from Master of vessels of less than 100 GRT upon Great Lakes and Inland, or Inland waters to Master of vessels of less than 100 GRT upon Near Coastal waters

A course certificate may be used for one application which results in the issuance of an endorsement and may not be used for any application transactions thereafter.

This course does not satisfy the Rules of the Road: International and Inland examination requirement to remove a geographic COLREGS limitation from a deck officer endorsement.

## Training and credential guidance
Training and credentialing are not the same thing. Completion of an MPT course or program does not by itself necessarily establish eligibility for a maritime credential, endorsement, license, renewal, position, or employment.

Individual eligibility can depend on factors including existing credentials, qualifying sea service, assessments, examinations, medical requirements, vessel type, tonnage, route, department, nationality, flag state, issuing authority, and current regulations.

Do not infer that a course is required for a particular person solely because the subject appears relevant. Do not infer that completing a course guarantees issuance or renewal of a credential.

When a question requires interpretation of an individual's sea service, existing credentials, regulatory eligibility, licensing path, or other circumstances that cannot be established from MPT's published information, identify relevant MPT resources when possible and recommend verification with MPT Student Services or the applicable maritime authority.

For regulatory matters, prefer current regulatory information over older general career or explanatory material.

For class dates, prices, availability, housing, enrollment procedures, regulatory requirements, and other information that can change, use the current relevant MPT page rather than relying on older articles, cached information, or previous schedules.

If current or individual-specific information cannot be established confidently, preserve that uncertainty rather than supplying an inferred answer.
