STCW II/2 Master/ Chief Mate 500 GT or more and less than 3000 GT

 
License Description

II/2 Master 500gt or more and less than 3000gt is a STCW Management level Deck Officer’s endorsement. The II/2 Master 500/ 3000 endorsement applies to National Officer credentials with tonnage limitations greater than 200grt and less than 1600grt.

The following National credentials would be eligible for endorsement STCW II/2 Master/ Chief Mate 500 GT or more and less than 3000 GT:

  • Master 1600 GRT, Oceans or Near Coastal
  • Master OSV, Oceans or Near Coastal
  • Master 500 GRT, Oceans or Near Coastal
  • Master of Towing, Ocean or Near-Coastal

 

The following National credentials would be eligible for endorsement STCW II/2 Chief Mate 500 GT or more and less than 3000 GT:

  • Chief Mate OSV, Oceans or Near Coastal
  • Master 500 GRT, Oceans or Near Coastal
  • Master of Towing, Ocean or Near-Coastal

  • Course #148 - Radar observer
  • Course #145 - Advanced Fire Fighting (within the last 5 years)
  • Course #146 - Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC)
  • Course #140 - Current Basic Training
  • Course #251 - RFPNW Assessments

After January 1, 2017 must provide evidence maintaining standard of competence in the following courses.

  • Course #164 - Basic Training Revalidation
  • Course #190 - Advanced Firefighting Refresher/ Revalidation
  • Course #191 - PSC Refresher/ Revalidation

GRANDFATHERING AND TRANSITION PROVISIONS.

Until December 31, 2016, listed training not required other than:

  • Course #151 - Bridge Resource Management (unless previously met)
  • Course #601 - Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS), To be valid for service on vessels equipped after December 31, 2016;
  • Course #150 - Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA), If serving on a vessel with this equipment;
  • Course #152 - Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), If serving on a vessel with this equipment.

Mariners who began training or service before March 24, 2014, will not be required to provide assessments for endorsements as Master or Chief Mate on Vessels of 500 GT or More and Less Than 3,000 GT until January 1, 2017.

Mariners who began the service or training for their endorsement after March 24, 2014, must meet all Training and Assessment requirements.

1080 days of service as OICNW on vessels operating in oceans, near-coastal and/or Great Lakes

OR

720 days of service as OICNW of which:

-      360 days are while serving as Chief Mate

NOTES:

  • Service on inland waters, bays, or sounds that are navigable waters of the United States may be substituted for up to 50 percent of the total required service
  • Experience gained in the engine department on vessels may be creditable for up to 90 days service requirements
  • Service as a rating will not be accepted to upgrade from operational level to management level STCW endorsements.

Sea Service Requirements for STCW II/2 Chief Mate 500 GT or more less than 3000GT.

360 days of service as OICNW on vessels more operating in oceans, near-coastal and/or Great Lakes.

NOTES:

  • Service on inland waters, bays, or sounds that are navigable waters of the United States may be substituted for up to 50 percent of the total required service
  • Experience gained in the engine department on vessels may be creditable for up to 30 days service requirements
  • Service as a rating will not be accepted to upgrade from operational level to management level STCW endorsements.

RENEWAL OF ENDORSEMENTS.

To renew an endorsement as Master or Chief Mate of vessels of 500 GT or More and Less Than 3,000 GT before January 1, 2017,

-      Meet the requirements to renew their national officer endorsement(s).

-      Course #616 - Leadership and Managerial Skills. (For the endorsement to be valid after December 31, 2016.)

Mariners who do not meet this requirement will receive a limitation on their endorsement indicating that it is not valid after December 31, 2016.

To renew an endorsement as Master or Chief Mate on vessels of 500 GT or More and Less Than 3,000 GT to be valid on or after January 1, 2017, mariners must provide evidence of:

-      Meet the requirements to renew their national officer endorsement(s);

-      Course #616 - Leadership and Managerial Skills (unless previously met);

-      Maintaining a standard of competence in the following:

  • Basic Training Revalidation - Course #164;
  • Advanced Firefighting Revalidation/ Refresher - Course #190.

Assessments are not required for renewal of these endorsements.

Required Assessments

Provide evidence of meeting the standard of competence specified in Section A-II/2 of STCW Code, Management Level – Assessments for this endorsement located in NVIC 11-14.

(Coast Guard approved training may be used to satisfy portions of the assessment requirements).

Operational-level assessments are not required if the mariner holds or has previously held an STCW endorsement as OICNW (STCW II/1) valid on vessels of 500 GT or more issued after 1997
